… but they’re not winning either since it’s their bye week.
The Texans aren’t losing …

Here we go again.
Dallas police are saying that Terrell Owens tried to OD on pain pills.
And T.O.’s people are disputing that claim.
As you can see, ESPN has gone into 24-hour coverage of the story. Or non-story, depending on who you ask.
Bill Parcells said earlier this week in a press conference that he’s been having an adverse reaction to the pain pills he’d been given, which happens to a lot of people.
Am I the only person who thinks that what happened is as simple as that???

With the Loss to Tennessee, Cal is out of my top 15. And Miami drops a few for losing to a good FSU team.
A Look at the AP Poll.

Yanks play Sox… and I don’t care
08/18/06 by tpackESPN loves this rivalry wayy too much. Just so you know, if you wanna watch ESPN this weekend, it’s Yanks and Sox, Yanks and Sox, Yanks and Sox. Seriously. I turn on ESPN because I want to watch Around The Horn, and the game is still on. So I switch around and go to the duce, and there’s a little league game on. What are the annoucers talking about? Yanks and Sox game. I go to ESPNEWS and they talk about Yanks and Sox.
Anyone else tired of the Yanks and Sox? For all I care they both can turn into total suck teams.
Seau Pulls a Michael Jordan.
08/18/06 by tpackJunior Seau has agreed to a 1 year deal with the Pats. The 12 time Pro-Bowler was in retirement for 4 days before he signed with the Patriots.
I’ll provide a link to a story after I find a better one.
Even More Chad Johnson
08/15/06 by tpackWhile I was on Chad Johnson I figured I’d share this with you. This is why he gets so much attention from this site.
More Chad Johnson
08/14/06 by tpackI found a column about the outspoken WR that’s worth reading.
Armed with a new six-year, $35.5 million contract, a deal negotiated by agent Drew Rosenhaus that put a nifty $10 million in bonuses into Johnson’s pocket, he has more financial wherewithal than ever to pay off all the fines he could amass for violating the league’s policies on excessive celebrations. Then again, the always provocative Johnson claims he has already formulated a plan for avoiding sanctions.
The basic premise: Using fans as human props.
“Look, they said you can’t use props, right?” Johnson said. “You can’t bring anything onto the field, or hide it in the end zone, or whatever. I mean, to me, it’s silly, because on one hand they really want us to be entertainers, and then they take away a way to entertain people. But here’s the thing: Every week, I will get in front of the cameras and kind of announce, in a secret way, what I want the fans to do for that game. I mean, it’ll be kind of like a code, but there will be enough hints that people should be able to get it. And every week, the fans will be my props. They can’t fine me for that. It’s going to drive the competition committee crazy trying to figure it out.
“It’s going to be like a soap opera, a continuing thing every week, with new episodes. People won’t be able to miss it because, just like with a soap opera, you’ll lose track. So everyone is going to have to watch to get that week’s secret message. Plus, with the year I’m going to have, they’re not going to want to miss any of it anyway.”
I’ll be watching.
Quick Note on Chad Johnson and the No Fun League
08/13/06 by tpackWhen asked what he was going to do with his TD Dances this year during tonights preseason game vs. the Redskins, he said that he will have a soap opera of them, and you can’t miss or you won’t know what is going on.
And another note for that game, Clinton Portis is injured. It appears to be his left shoulder.
More on whatever later.
A Few Pre-season Thoughts
08/13/06 by tpackFirst I wanna show you this, if you didn’t know, Adrian McPherson missed his first preseason game. Here’s why.
“T-Rac,” the Tennessee Titans’ raccoon-like mascot, hit Saints quarterback Adrian McPherson with a golf cart as he walked onto the field for the second half Saturday night, bruising him and knocking him out of New Orleans’ 19-16 victory in the teams’ exhibition opener.
And I’m not making that up.
Anyway also in Saints-Titans news, Reggie Bush was impressive in limited time, getting 59 yards on 6 carries, including a 44 yarder. Vince Young wasn’t as impressive.
Rams-Colts had the Colts with a new Kicker, who did his job kicking a 53 yarder.
Philip Rivers looked impressive, going 15-21 with a TD and no picks. People still wanna doubt him?
And the Panthers looked great in their starters limited time. If no one gets injured, this is a super bowl champion without any doubt in my mind.
And that’s all for now.
The American League right now.
08/11/06 by tpackRemember at the Trade deadline, when the Red Sox didn’t trade anyone, and the Yankees went out and got Abreu among a couple other players? Looking back on that now, Red Sox nation has to be kicking themselves right now, while the Yankees are looking like big time trading deadline winners.
The three new Yankees donned the pinstripes last week and helped fuel the back half of a fortnight in which the club almost could do no wrong. What had been a season of hope for would-be American League playoff teams set on bumping New York out of the postseason picture turned on a confluence of Yankee-friendly events: nine wins in a recent 10-game stretch, the arrival of the reinforcements and the team’s return — tenuous though it is — to its familiar perch atop the A.L. East.
The Central might have lost another contentor now that Liriano is out. With Liriano, the Twins had a legit shot at the WC. The White Sox have struggled in the pitching department as of late, and the Twins had the best 1-2 Punch in baseball (to go along with a couple other quality starters). Now that he is on the DL indefinately, the AL playoffs should look something like this:
AL West – Oakland
AL Central – Detroit
AL East – New York
AL WC – Chicago White Sox
Philip Rivers Ready for Preseason Start
08/11/06 by tpackAfter getting raving reports from various media sources about his accuracy and his great training camp, Philip Rivers is ready for the Preseason game against the Packers.
By all accounts, Rivers has had a stellar training camp and has received the support of his teammates. But the former North Carolina State star also knows he needs to prove his worth somewhere other than in workouts.
“I need to go out there and perform, obviously,” said Rivers, who has one NFL touchdown pass. “That’s not saying I’ve been great in practice, but I have had solid days that has given them some confidence in me, and trust and respect. But ultimately it happens out there at Qualcomm and in the real games. That is when it is really shown.”
Remember you fantasy team owners, preseason isn’t just to help teams be ready for the season; it’s also going to help you see how players are proforming if you haven’t drafted yet. I expect Rivers to excell.
Matt Leinart Remains the only unsigned draft pick
08/9/06 by tpackWhat’s the hold up?
PHOENIX—Arizona Cardinals first-round draft pick Matt Leinart has stunned the team by not only holding out on signing his rookie contract but demanding that training camp be moved to the more convenient location of his house. “I don’t see why we have to go to all the way up to Flagstaff for camp. What do we need? A pool? Because I’ve got a pool. And some weights, and a 72-inch plasma television for, like, film study,” the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback told coach Dennis Green Wednesday. “And, oh, I just got this huge dining-room table that’d be great for drawing up plays, or even just, you know, chowing down.” Football experts consider it unlikely that Cardinals management will accommodate Leinart, especially after strongly considering but ultimately rejecting his previous suggestion that the team play all its home games in Los Angeles.
I thought I’d share
08/9/06 by tpackThis post from one of my favorite blogs with you.
This year things are not so clear-cut. No team stands out as an obvious choice for the national title, especially once you factor in the schedule. What we do know is that talent matters. While the most talented team doesn’t always win it all, those without top-notch talent, never do. Last year for example, every conference champion was ranked in the top 3 in their conference based on 5 year recruiting rankings. Texas and USC were both #1 while Florida State and Ohio State (co-champ) were #2. Georgia and Penn State were both #3 with fellow SEC championship game participant LSU #2. The other #1’s were Michigan and Tennessee who both had disappointing seasons.
This year, based on talent alone, USC, UGA, OU, FSU, Miami, Florida, LSU, Texas, Michigan, Tennessee, Auburn, Ohio State, Texas A&M, South Carolina (believe it or not), and Notre Dame are the most talented teams on paper. It’s highly likely that these teams will win the BCS conferences, and two of them will compete for the national title.
Former Ohio State Star….
08/9/06 by tpackMaurice Clarett was arrested.
Maurice Clarett was charged with carrying a concealed weapon after a highway chase early Wednesday that ended with police using Mace on the former Ohio State running back and finding four loaded guns in his sport utility vehicle. Officers used Mace to subdue Clarett after a stun gun was ineffective because the former Fiesta Bowl star was wearing a bullet-resistant vest, Sgt. Michael Woods said. “It took several officers to get him handcuffed,” Woods said. “Even after he was placed in the paddy wagon, he was still kicking at the doors and being a problem for the officers.”
It’s a shame, the guy had so much talent. He wasted all that talent and dropped out of OSU. If he stayed around a couple years he might have gotten him self into the NFL for real (instead of the 3rd Round Pick and cut in training camp).
